Hospice groups to gather soon

A meeting of fellowship and sharing for those who have survived the death of a family member will be at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 10 at Sunrise II Family Restaurant, 101 W. Second St., Byron.

Those attending the First Steps and Beyond ... For Survivors lunch will be responsible for their own meal.

For reservations or more information, call the Serenity Hospice and Home office at 815-732-2499 by 10 a.m. Jan. 10

Coffee and Friends Etc. will meet from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Jan. 11 at Serenity Home, 1658 South state Route 2, Oregon.

This group is open to all bereaved adults. Call the Serenity Hospice by 4 p.m. Jan 10 if planning to attend. If no one calls, the group will not meet.

Serenity Hospice and Home’s Movie and Discussion Night will befrom 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the hospice. The group will see the movie “Lake Effects,” and then will discuss how it relates to grief and healing. In the movie, sisters Sara and Lily lead very different lives. When their father unexpectedly dies, they reunite in their hometown. Through the guidance of their father’s spirit, the women and their mother finally discover what being a family truly means.

Space is limited; call the Serenity Hospice and Home office at 815-732-2499 by noon Monday to reserve a place. Participants may bring their own snacks and drink.

The groups are sponsored by Serenity Hospice and Home, and in part by grants from United Way of Ogle County and 708 Mental Health Board.

Wise saw collapse in support

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
