The Rock Falls Rockets placed fifth in the small-school portion of the State Farm Classic, beating Prairie Central 61-55 in the fifth-place game Friday at the U.S. Cellular Center in Bloomington.
Steven Armoska scored 20 points for the Rockets (11-4), who led 29-19 at halftime. Alex Leaf had 12 points, and Daegan Wharff added 10.
Rock Falls beat Tri-Valley 51-45 earlier. The Rockets jumped out to a 14-5 lead after one but needed to win the fourth, 18-13, to pull away in the end. Armsoska led the Rockets with 15 points.
Harlem 77, Sterling 59: The Golden Warriors fell in their last game of the event to white-hot shooting Harlem in DeKalb.
Justin VanWembeke scored a game-high 23 points for Harlem.
Tre Whittaker and Micah Miller led Sterling (6-8) with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Paw Paw 84, Prophetstown 65: Paw Paw scored at least 21 points in each of the final three quarters to win a consolation game at Newman.
Ethan Howard scored 17 points for the Prophets (9-5), while Carter Ames hit three 3-pointers and added 16 points. Nichols Siemers led three Paw Paw players in double figures with 29 points.
Durand 72, AFC 41: The Raiders were outscored 44-17 after halftime in a consolation loss at Newman.
Twelve different players scored for AFC (4-6), led by Troy Mairs’ nine points.
Riverdale 53, Bureau Valley 41: The Storm dropped their last pool-play game, but will still face Orion in the title game at 7:30 Saturday night.
Parker Neuhalfen led Bureau Valley (12-6) with 15 points.
Orion 50, Erie 32: The Chargers finished off the Cardinals with an 11-2 advantage in the fourth period.
Jacob Johnston led Erie (9-6), which will play Knoxville in the fifth-place game at 4:30 p.m., with 14 points.
Mercer County 48, Morrison 24: The Mustangs fell behind 13-3 after one quarter and never recovered.
Hunter Hamstra’s 13 points paced Morrison (3-14).
West Carroll 67, Riverdale 64: Tommy Losch scored 13 of the Thunder’s 16 points in a breakaway third period.
The 5-10 West Carroll senior had a game-high 30 points all being told and helped break up a 29-29 halftime tie in the 16-10 third. He also grabbed four rebounds.
Eastland 72, Lena-Winslow 47: Dalton Shaner and Ty Hartman combined for 53 points, and the Cougars made the title-game at their home tourney.
Shaner had 29, and Hartman added 24. The Cougars (10-2) will face Warren (7-10) in the title game at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Amboy 54, Fulton 47: The Clippers overcame a 19-10 deficit after the first period to earn a shot at Annawan in the fifth-place game.
Tyson Powers led Amboy (4-10) with 17 points, and Damon Quest added 16. Matt Dail led Fulton (3-13) with 15 points.
Adamecz notches 100th win: Newman senior Stephen Adamecz scored his 100th career win to help the Newman wrestling team win three of four matches at the St. Thomas More New Year’s Challenge in Champaign.
The Comets beat Braidwood Reed-Custer 47-24, Murphysboro 50-24 and Auburn 36-31, but lost to Shelbyville 36-28. Joining Adamecz (138/145 pounds) as Comets to go 4-0 on the day were Hunter Webb (106), Jake Snow (126), Brandon Ahlgrim (132) and Brian Bahrs (160/170).
Oregon split four matches, defeating Roxana 39-34 and Seneca 36-33 while losing to Olympia 51-13 and Litchfield 48-21. Brandon Sklavanitis (170) won four bouts for the Hawks.
Morrison gained a 48-27 win over St. Thomas More and lost to Plano (61-13), Petersburg PORTA (58-22) and IVC (53-21). Nolan Dykema (152), Austin Shoup (170) and Calvin Harridge (195) won three bouts for the Mustangs.
Erie-Prophetstown 34, Monticello 31: The Panthers opened their trip southward with a dual win in Monticello in a tuneup for today’s Argenta-Oreana tournament.
Brandon McCullough (106 pounds), Josh Bowling (113), Tyler Naftzger (120) and Alan Kuhlemeier (285) all won by pin for the Panthers.
