Senior Zack Everett, 17, of Sterling, is one of Sterling High School’s November Students of the Month. He is the son of Tad and Cindy Everett of Sterling; his sister is Katelyn Everett, 13, a freshman at Sterling High School, and his brother is Tyler Everett, 11, a sixth-grader at Challand Middle School.

Favorite class: Government. The teacher is my basketball coach, Jim Preston, and I really get along with him. It’s fun.

Favorite teachers: Steve Johnson, chemistry. I’ve known him for a long time. He relates with kids really well. And Mike Gottemoller, geometry and precalculus. I’ve known him a long time, too; he’s my best friend’s dad. He’s really good at what he does and easy to understand.

Extracurriculars: Basketball, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Rotary Club, and the youth group at Harvest Time Bible Church in Rock Falls.

After graduation: I’m going to Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, and I’m going to major in criminal justice and minor in business.

Best friends: The basketball team. We have a lot of time together, and it’s pretty fun, and we get along really well. We’ve been together for a long time – some of us go back to first grade.

Favorite musical group: MercyMe.

Favorite actor: Liam Neeson.

Favorite movie: “Saving Private Ryan.”

Favorite TV show: Anything on ESPN.

Hobby: Being outside.

Favorite game or outdoor activity: Basketball.

Favorite food: Spaghetti with meat sauce.

Favorite places to shop: The Nike Factory Store or Under Armour outlet.

Favorite website: ESPN ScoreCenter on my iPod.

Biggest fear: Dying a painful death.

Pet peeve: People who always ask questions.

Haunts: My youth group at church; that’s a fun place to be. Or team dinners at my teammate’s houses. Or anywhere outside.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Dedicated. My sophomore year, I had what should have been season-ending surgery, but I came back and played within weeks. I always finish what I start.

Personal trivia: I used to play the guitar and piano and probably could play the piano again with a little practice.

Dream job: Professional basketball player.

Trading places: I would trade places with Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves, which isn’t the greatest team, but he’s pretty good. He doesn’t jump really well, but does the fundamentals right. He’s good at what he does.

On Tuesday, the Lee County Board voted 12-9 to approve a proposed wind farm in the southwestern part of the county. That happened after 27 sessions of a public hearing held by the Zoning Board of Appeals. Is everyone wiser for it?
