No one to blame but myself

I've received my share of speeding tickets through the years, so I should know better.

About 2:30 p.m. today, I got pulled over by Sterling police Sgt. Sarah Schmidt on the one-way portion of Third Street. She clocked me going 41 mph in a 30-mph zone. When I saw her parked at the side of the street, I checked my speedometer and realized right away I was going too fast. I slowed down, but it was too late.

When she stopped me, Schmidt told me what her radar indicated. I told her the reading seemed about right.

She politely informed me that she was giving me a citation. She was doing her job.

Any regular reader of our police blotter would realize that plenty of people get cited for speeding on the one-way parts of Third and Fourth streets. So I really had no excuse for speeding. Now, I'll have to pony up.
