STERLING – Maxine M. Benters, 84, of Sterling, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

She was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Edwardsville, the daughter of Glen and Bertha (Halbe) Kniser. She was united in marriage to Ronald Benters on April 27, 1947, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sterling. He preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1995.

Maxine was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. She enjoyed playing the organ, accordion, and harmonica. Maxine also loved fishing, bowling, traveling to Minnesota, and her morning coffee group.

Survivors are one daughter, Bonnie (Jim) Brotheridge of Sterling; one son, Bob (Terry) Benters of Rock Falls; three grandchildren, Kelci (Tony) Eakle, Julie (Aaron) Gonzalez, and Molly (fiancé Dustin Cardwell) Benters; and one great-grandson, Andrew Eakle.

She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls.  Cremation rites will follow. The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Daniel Behmlander officiating. Burial of cremains will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Good Neighbor Care.
