Sterling falls to Moline; Erie wins at own tournament

Rockets roll past Cougars

The Rock Falls Rockets picked up their second nonconference win of the week Saturday, defeating the Eastland Cougars 51-41 at Tabor Gym.

Jordan Giddings had 15 points, four rebounds and two steals for the Rockets (6-7), while Morgan Mammosser finished with 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. 

Rock Falls led 29-21 at halftime, then clamped down defensively in the third quarter to extend the margin to 42-28. Linsey Brown hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points, Aubree Johnson had four rebounds, three assists and two steals to go with her 3-pointer, and Jessica Wind grabbed a team-high five rebounds and four steals and scored two points.

Courtney Walker paced the Cougars (11-3) with 10 points, and Izy Todd and Katrina Hatheway chipped in eight points apiece.

Sterling shootout

Moline 52, Sterling 46: Morgan Gerard had 26 points, six rebounds and two steals to lead the Maroons past the Golden Warriors on Saturday in the opening game of the final day of the Sterling Shootout at Musgrove Fieldhouse.

Stephanie Kester hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points to lead Sterling, which trailed 25-15 at halftime before battling back. Kaitlyn Bauer added 10 points and three rebounds, and Kiarra Harris chipped in eight points, four rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.

Erie tournament

Monmouth-Roseville 51, Fulton 42: The Steamers trailed just 38-35 heading into the fourth quarter, but were outscored 13-7 over the final 8 minutes at the Warkins Cardinal Classic.

Morgan Sanquist scored a game-high 17 points for Fulton (5-10), and Morgan Wierema added 10. Destiny Smith led Monmouth-Roseville with 15 points.

Knoxville 50, Morrison 17: The Fillies fell behind 15-0 after one quarter and never recovered in Erie.

Alyssa Canales, Lakin Goodman and Chelsea Eads each scored four points for Morrison (2-8). Kelly Lenz led Knoxville with 12.

Wethersfield 53, Bureau Valley 26: Caitlin Miller hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Geese past the Storm in Erie.

Nicole Bornsheuer scored nine points and Lacey DeVenney had eight to pace BV (1-12). Kristen Parsons had 14 points for Wethersfield.
