Editors should do a better job proofreading

Published: Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 1:15 a.m. CDT

I really feel that the editors of Sauk Valley Media need to proofread their articles and get all the facts straight before they submit the article.

There have been multiple articles that I’ve seen that the misprints are just undeniably noticeable. For example, I saw a baby announcement for someone I know where the parents’ last name was printed, but the last name they printed for the baby was spelled totally wrong.

In an article on Dec. 14, there’s a small obituary for a man, and then an article right below with his name printed in the article, and a picture along with his name printed below it. His last name is spelled wrong below the picture, but spelled correctly in the article and obituary. There’s a picture in the Dec. 15 paper, and the name of one of the men listed below is wrong, even though the man told the reporter a couple times what his name was.

I understand there’s a lot to be printed and mistakes happen, but some of the articles and announcements are meaningful keepsakes to people. I feel that they can’t really be meaningful keepsakes if the information is printed incorrectly.
