Arlo R. Millican
STERLING – Arlo R. Millican, 87, of Sterling, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Arlo was born April 23, 1925, in Bismarck, the son of Albert and Myrtle (Rogers) Millican. He married Martha Jones on May 12, 1946. He married Patricia (Nordhous) Wheeler in 1981. He was a veteran of World War II, having been drafted in 1942. He served until 1946 in the Army, through which he was awarded numerous medals. Arlo spent the next decade working in the oil fields in Salem. He gave up the oil fields for college. Under the GI Bill, he attended Eastern Illinois University for 2 years, then transferring to the University of Illinois.
In 1955, he began his career at the Sterling Gazette as a retail advertising manager. In 1981, he was promoted to advertising director, a position he held until his retirement in 1988.
