LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Shirley Mason Auman, 89, of Rock Falls, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Emeritus of Green Mountain in Lakewood, Colo.

Shirley was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Alamo, Tenn., the daughter of Lonnie J. and Ora Belle (Roberts) Hall. She married Hubert Owen Auman on July 27, 1947, in Alamo. He preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2004. 

Shirley graduated with a nursing degree from the University of Tennessee – Memphis in 1945. During the commencement exercises, she was awarded the Trustee Medal by the faculty of nursing and the board of trustees of John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, the highest award given to a nurse graduating from the University of Tennessee.

Shirley continued her career as a registered nurse at KSB in Dixon and Chicago until 1950. But most rewarding to her were her experiences with patients and staff at Community General Hospital from 1964-1973, where she was head nurse on the medical floor, and as an RN at Whiteside County Health Department from 1973 until her retirement in 1985. 

Shirley is survived by a son, Don M. (Jeannette) Auman of Englewood, Colo.; a granddaughter, Lisl Auman of Littleton, Colo.; a grandson, Mason (Jennifer) Aumanstal of Madison, Wis.; and two great-granddaughters, Madison and Cassidy. 

She was preceded in death by Hubert; one son, Mel Earl Auman in 2005; six brothers; and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls, with the Rev. Henrietta Milner officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon. McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls handled arrangements.
