Oregon St. beats Chicago State; Top-ranked Hoosiers fall to Butler

Oregon State guard Roberto Nelson scored 34 points to lead the Beavers past Dixon native Matt Ross and the Chicago State Cougars, 87-77 on Sunday in Corvallis, Ore.

Ross had nine points and the led the team with 10 rebounds. He also had two assists and a steal for the Cougars (3-9).

Devon Collier came off the bench to score 25 points for the Beavers (7-2).

DePaul 69, Northern Illinois 64: Northern Illinois gave Brandon Young and DePaul fits before the Blue Demons decided they needed to finally put the Huskies away in Rosemont.

Young scored a team-high 15 points, including two free throws in the final seconds.

Abdel Nader, playing in only his second game since serving a seven-game suspension, scored a game-high 20 points for Northern Illinois (2-7) while Akeem Springs added 11.

IIllinois State 87, Morgan State 68: Jackie Carmichael scored a career-high 30 points to lead Illinois State to a victory over Morgan State in Normal.

Carmichael also had nine rebounds for the Redbirds (7-3), who never trailed in the contest. Bryant Allen added 13 points for Illinois State.

Justin Black led Morgan State (3-4) with 21 points.


Butler 88, Indiana 86, OT: Walk-on Alex Barlow drove in for a spinning 6-foot jumper with 2.4 seconds left in overtime in Indianapolis, and Butler toppled Indiana in the Crossroads Classic for their first victory over a top-ranked team in school history.

Barlow, a sophomore, had scored only 12 points this season and just 18 in his college career.

The Hoosiers (9-1) called timeout to set up a play but could only muster a half-court heave from Jordan Hulls. The shot went left of the basket and missed everything, ending one of this season's best college games.

Iowa 80, Northern Iowa 73: Devyn Marble scored a season-high 30 points as Iowa beat Northern Iowa in the inaugural Big Four Classic.

Freshman Mike Gesell added a career-best 23 points for the Hawkeyes (9-2), who have won four in a row after a brief two-game skid in late November.

Deon Mitchell had 23 points to lead Northern Iowa (6-4), whose losses have come against Louisville, Stanford, Memphis and the Hawkeyes.

Notre Dame 81, Purdue 68: Jack Cooley had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead Notre Dame to its seventh straight victory with a win over Purdue in the Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis.

Eric Atkins had 17 points and seven assists, Pat Connaughton scored 16 and Garrick Sherman 11 for the Fighting Irish (9-1).

Purdue freshman Rapheal Davis scored all 21 of his points in the second half.
