Wolves defend home floor

Milledgeville boys struggle to put away tourney foe

The Pearl City Wolves put their home floor to good use late to get past Fulton 49-39 and take fifth place in their annual tournament.

The Steamers (5-8), led by Morgan Wierema's 13 points, led 35-33 through three periods. Katherine Wayne scored 10 points for Fulton, and Morgan Sanquist, who was named to the all-tourney team, added four.

Erie 65, Bureau Valley 33: Ten Cardinals not only got in the Three Rivers game but also scored, as Erie built a 37-13 lead at the half.

Paige Rus led Erie (8-3, 3-3) with 15 points, and Rachel Cobert was a bucket shy of a double-double with eight points and 13 rebounds.

Irini Petros, Krista Naaktgeboren and Nicole Bornsheuer tied for a team high with eight points for Bureau Valley (1-10, 0-4).

Kewanee 47, Amboy 26: Kaitlyn Liebing scored a game-high 14 points for Amboy, but the hosting Boilermakers pulled away in the third period of the Three Rivers tilt.

Amboy (5-6, 1-4) trailed just 25-17 at the half, and got 10 points and two 3-pointers from Brooke Lovgren. Two players scored in double figures for Kewanee (6-6, 2-3), which shot 6-for-7 from the free-throw line as a team.

Orangeville 42, Milledgeville 37: The Missiles led by a point entering the fourth period of the Forreston tournament 15th-place game, but the Broncos came bucking back.

Tanner Klecker led Orangeville (2-8) with 17 points. Jordan Harris led Milledgeville (2-8) with 11, and Kaleb Ebersole pitched in 10. The Missiles shot just 6-for-15 from the free-throw line.

Christian Life 67, Morrison 36: The Mustangs slipped behind 19-7 after one period and couldn't recover in the 13th-place game.

Christian Life, led by Billy Cobb's 23 points and Bryce Witzman's 17, built on that margin with a 24-11 advantage in the second period. Alexander Volckmann led Morrison (2-11) with 13 points.
