DIXON – Shaw Media announced Friday that John Rung, senior vice president, has been named the company’s chief operating officer, effective Jan. 1.

In making the announcement, Tom Shaw, president and CEO of Shaw Media, said that Rung had continued to distinguish himself as a capable leader of a growing and complex organization.

“Our solid performances in these difficult times, and the recent acquisition of the 22 Suburban Life Media publications, have been – in large measure – due to his involvement and guidance,” Shaw said.

Shaw Media owns and operates Sauk Valley Media.

Rung, 50, also is publisher of the Shaw Media’s Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake. He has been with the company for 16 years in a number of positions.

As COO, Rung will be responsible for the company’s operating activities, including revenue growth, strategic development, and financial goal management, Shaw said.

”I am honored that Tom Shaw and our board of directors have entrusted me with this responsibility,” Rung said. “The success we have experienced is a direct reflection of the talented and engaged people on our team. I look forward to working with them to continue Shaw Media’s outstanding legacy in the communities we serve.”

Rung resides in Johnsburg with his wife and three children.

Shaw Media, founded in 1851, publishes more than 80 print and online titles in Illinois and Iowa.
