MOUNT MORRIS – Bernadine A. Getzendaner, 86, of Mount Morris, passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon. She was a homemaker.

Bernadine was born April 8, 1926, in Otter Creek, Iowa, the daughter of David and Gertrude (Schoeter) Marcus. She married Charles Getzendaner on Dec. 4, 1961, in Polo. He preceded her in death in 1977.

Survivors include daughter, Karen Getzendaner of Oregon; son, David Getzendaner of Mount Morris; sister, Bernice Newmarch of Dewitt, Iowa; brothers, David Leo Marcus of California and Orlyn Marcus of Florida; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Leo Getzendaner.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Polo Family Funeral Home. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Polo. Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Polo.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
