Dollar General coming to Milledgeville?

Village may sell property for store

MILLEDGEVILLE – The village lost its supermarket in recent times, but it may gain a variety store.

Village officials said Thursday that Tennessee-based Dollar General is interested in having a store in town.

On Saturday, the village board will meet with a representative of a company that leases space for Dollar General stores.

The company is interested in a parcel at the city’s industrial park at state Route 40 and Shannon Route, Village President Galen Wirth said.

If the company is serious, he said, the village will advertise the property so that anyone has a chance to bid on it.

No other business has set up at the industrial park since the village formed it in 2008, Wirth said.

“This [Dollar General] would mean we would have an alternative source for relatively good prices,” he said.

The village council won’t take any action on the property at its Saturday meeting.

“Nothing’s for certain yet,” Wirth said.

Dollar General has stores in Sterling, Rock Falls, Dixon, Morrison, Prophetstown, Polo, Savanna, Oregon and Rochelle.

To attend

The Milledgeville village board meets at 11 a.m. Saturday at Village Hall, 344 Main Ave.

The board will meet with a representative of a company that leases space for Dollar General stores.

A spokeswoman for Dollar General didn’t return a call for comment Thursday.
