Snowmobile trails are open only 3 months

Winter weather is fast approaching, and it won’t be long until the snow will be flying. Soon it will be time to get out those shovels, sleds and snowmobiles.

This is a reminder that the area snowmobile trails are open only from Dec. 15 to March 15 when there is at least 4 inches of snow on the ground.

The Blackhawk Snowblazers Snowmobile Club builds, maintains and grooms the Illinois snowmobile trails in the Lee and Ogle county area. In doing this, they provide all snowmobile riders safe and beautiful trails to enjoy.

The snowmobile club members host fundraisers throughout the year to help defray some costs not covered by the snowmobile registration funds and also make charitable contributions to many local, state and national organizations.

There are many hours and costs involved in obtaining permission for, marking, maintaining and grooming the area snowmobile trails. Even if you are not able to physically help out, just belonging to a snowmobile club helps provide funds to sustain the organization. Our snowmobile club welcomes all snowmobile riders to join a local club and help support your sport of snowmobiling.

We would also like to thank all of the local landowners and renters who provide us their land to build the snowmobile trails on. Without them, these local trails would not be possible. Thank you.

For information on the Blackhawk Snowblazers Snowmobile Club, go to our website at www.blackhawksnowblazers.com. See you on the trails, after Dec. 15, and when there is 4 inches of snow.

Note to readers – Dianne Frye is treasurer of the Blackhawk Snowblazers Snowmobile Club.
