Couple uses sick child to rob, cut Rochelle woman; police looking for tips

ROCHELLE – A woman was tied up in her own home, robbed and cut after a woman holding a baby she claimed was sick tricked the homeowner into letting her in to use the phone, police said.

Rochelle police are looking for a white woman and a black man who stole money and cut the homeowner on the throat, police said in a news release sent this morning.

According to the release:

Police were called to the 400 block of Avenue D at 6:38 p.m. Monday. The woman told officers that a woman holding a small child knocked on her door and asked to use the phone because the child was sick.

The woman let her into the living room, left to put her dog in another room, and when she returned she was attacked by a black man with a knife. She was forced into another room, tied up and gagged and cut on the throat. The injury was not life-threatening.

The pair took a small amount of cash and left.

The woman's family found her and called 911. She was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital.

Investigators have received several tips and have conducted interviews, but still are looking for the pair.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sgt. Jeff Leininger at 815-562-2131 or the Ogle-Lee Crime Stoppers at 888-228-4488.
