Franklin Grove teen's condition improves

FRANKLIN GROVE – The condition of a Franklin Grove teenager injured in an SUV crash Sunday night was upgraded Tuesday from critical to good, a Rockford Memorial Hospital spokeswoman said.

Lee County sheriff's deputies were called at 5:18 p.m. to the 1600 block of Old Mill Road, about a mile west of Daysville Road. Cody Stahl, 17, was eastbound in a Jeep Cherokee when he left the road on a curve in the 1600 block of Old Mill Road, hit a pole and a wire fence, and came to rest in a grass field next to a downed live power line.

Stahl was not wearing a seat belt, but his air bag did deploy. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors, Sheriff John Varga said.

The accident remains under investigation.
