Newman girls beat Kewanee to remain unbeaten in TRAC

The Newman Comets remained undefeated in Three Rivers Conference play, traveling to Kewanee on Thursday and coming home with a 57-48 victory.
Junior Mary Alice Oswalt led the way with 18 points for the Comets (7-3, 4-0), while seniors Rachel Hageman and Jaimie Hurd each chipped in 15 points. Hageman finished off a double-double with 11 rebounds, and Aubree Schmitt dished eight assists.
Darlane Fontanez scored 10 points for Kewanee (5-5, 1-2).
Fulton 37, Amboy 27: The Steamers held Amboy to just 11 second-half points in a Three Rivers win in Fulton.
Morgan Sanquist led the way with 18 points. Morgan Wierema added nine points for Fulton (4-5, 1-3).
Kaitlyn Liebing had 15 points for Amboy (5-5, 1-3).
Morrison 49, Bureau Valley 33: The Fillies picked up their first win of the season, knocking off the Storm in Manlius.
Ashley Greul scored 12 points and Adrienne Banks added 10 for Morrison (1-4, 1-4 Three Rivers), which outscored BV 43-23 after the first quarter.
Krista Naaktgeboren hit a pair of 3-pointers and led the Storm (1-9, 0-3) with eight points.
Riverdale 58, Erie 49: One bad quarter was all it took for Riverdale to sneak out of Erie with a Three Rivers win.
The Rams outscored the Cardinals 17-9 in the second quarter. The teams were nearly even in all the rest of the quarters.
Rachel Cobert had 11 points for Erie (7-2, 2-2). Paige Rus added 10 points.
Hannah Nimrick had 20 points for Riverdale (8-1, 4-1).
Prophetstown 62, St. Bede 33: Cassie Reiley hit four 3-pointers en route to 19 points to lead the Prophets to a home win in a nonconference game.
Riley Walters added 16 points, while Clare Kramer had nine points for Prophetstown (9-1).
Laura Sickley had eight points for St. Bede.
Boys basketball
AFC 78, Durand 57: Troy Mairs scored 23 points as the Raiders won their first NUIC East game of the season at home.
Ermir Ramadani added 19 points, and Bret Gittleson had 14 points for AFC (4-3, 1-1).
Pete Basile led Durand (4-3, 1-2) with 16 points.
Orangeville 45, Milledgeville 37: The Broncos outscored the Missiles 16-7 in the third quarter to provide enough of a cushion for a NUIC East victory in Milledgeville.
Tanner Klecker led Orangeville (1-5, 1-1) with 12 points.
Kameron DawTyne had 12 points for Milledgeville (2-4, 0-2). Caleb Skoog added six points.
Eastland 67, East Dubuque 51: Ty Hartman and Dalton Shaner combined for 44 points to lead the Cougars to a NUIC West win in Lanark.
Hartman had 23 points on 10 field goals and three free throws. Shaner made nine 2s and three free throws for 21 points.. Austin Hansen added 12 points for Eastland (2-1, 2-0).
Adam Lange made six 3-pointers and scored 24 points for East Dubuque (5-1, 1-1).
Men's basketball
Sauk Valley 67, Kennedy-King 65: The Skyhawks built a double-digit halftime lead, watched it get trimmed to one, then pulled away again before holding off a late Kennedy-King charge to win on the road.
Daven Ottley had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Sauk (6-3), and Magd Owayed matched those 10 boards to go with his six points. Carlos Hendrix had 15 points and three steals, and drew praise for his poise from Sauk coach Russ Damhoff. Jalen Jones also hit double-figures for the Skyhawks, scoring 12 points.
"We really played a strong first half; I don't think we could've played any better," Damhoff said. "The game got more physical in the second half, and they took us out of what we wanted to do, but we did enough to hold on."
