While many other factors played into Polo’s 59-51 loss to Dakota Wednesday night in Polo, Marcos coach Matt Messer probably won’t want to look at the free-throw numbers this morning.
Dakota (4-1, 3-1 NUIC East) shot 8-for-9 from the charity stripe, while Polo (5-1, 1-1) shot just 6-for-17. The Indians jumped out to a 36-26 halftime lead behind Brett Benning scoring 16 of his game-high 20 points in the first 16 minutes.
AJ Dollmeyer and Brady Bushman led Polo with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Bushman hit three 3-pointers. The Marcos got within seven by outscoring the Indians 13-10 in the third period.
Oregon 3,308, South Beloit 3,135: After edging the Sobos by just seven pins in the opener at Viking Lanes in South Beloit, the Hawks won the last two rather convincingly.
Dan Grimm started slow with a 180 for Oregon, which won the opener 1,042-1,035. He followed with a 244 and a 237 for a team-high 661 series. South Beloit’s Mike Murphy led all bowlers with a 288 middle game and a 687 series.
Mark Schmidt had a steady 574 series (187-188-199) for Oregon, which swept all seven NIBC points.
Oregon 2,365, South Beloit 2,359: The Sobos took two blind scores and the Hawks took five out of seven NIBC points at Viking Lanes.
Karissa Corbin had the meet’s top game and series of 202 and 524. Caitlin Messenger added a 441 series for Oregon, which lost the third game by just 20 pins, 791-771.
AFC loses pair: The Raiders went to Dakota and dropped matches against the host Indians (68-3) and Rockford Lutheran (32-8).
Anthony Hahn (113) won bouts in both matches for AFC. Jake Kaecker (152) won his bout against Lutheran.
