John J. Pauly Sr.

STERLING – John J. Pauly Sr., 90, of Sterling, formerly of Chicago, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born March 19, 1922, in Chicago, the son of James and Helen (Riordan) Pauly. He married Lillian Klasen on May 3, 1947, in Chicago. She preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 2011.

He was a teacher and administrator for the Chicago Public Schools for 37 years before retiring. He also was principal at St. Mary Catholic School in Dixon for 3 years. John was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon.

He is survived by his children, John (Lindsey) Pauly of Milwaukee, Carol (Robert) Linkowski of Dixon and David (Joyce) Pauly of Downers Grove; seven grandchildren, Kevin and Melanie Pauly, Gregory (Michelle) Linkowski, Daniel Linkowski, Katie Linkowski, Michael Geduldig, and Charmaine Garry; two great-grandchildren, Michael Geduldig III and Ashley Geduldig; and two brothers, Louis (Dorothy) Pauly of Orland Park and James (Ruth) Pauly of Midlothian.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m., Thursday at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Morrissey, celebrant, officiating. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Rockford.
