Janet B. Putnam

OREGON – Janet B. Putnam, 88, lifelong Oregon resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Pinecrest Manor in Mount Morris.

She was born July 18, 1924, to George and Lucille (Bellows) Bollinger at their home on South Third Street in Oregon. She was a graduate of Oregon High School. She married John G. Putnam on June 30, 1945, in Oregon. She worked at Warmolts Clinic in Oregon before her marriage. After her children were grown, she was a cook for the Oregon School District for 10 years.

In addition to being a devoted wife, loving mother, and skillful homemaker, Janet had been an active member of the Ogle County Historical Society, the First Presbyterian Church, the Oregon Golf Club, and PEO.

Drill

It was easy to get distracted by the performance of it all. The active shooter drill held by Sterling and County Police last week at the high school. The scenario; two armed shooters in the school killing students and teachers and the police and medical technician's response. It's an unfortunate drill, but a necessary one. In the hallways a Halloween mentality took over, especially when the ketchup-blood concoction was applied on the students. Small talk and "what I'm going to do" plans were passed around freely between laughs and odors of the sickly sweet blood stand-in.
