ERIE – A Whiteside County highway worker was in fair condition Wednesday at a Peoria hospital after being hit by a car Monday on Albany and Burns roads.

Jeffrey R. Bierman, 54, of Morrison, was taken to Illini Hospital in Silvis then airlifted to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

State Police responded to the crash at 10:13 a.m. They say a county highway pickup truck driven by Bierman was stopped along Albany at Burns where another worker, whom police declined to name, was filling a pothole.

Marci E. Bohnert, 56, of Erie, southbound on Albany in a Ford Focus, sideswiped the truck and hit Bierman as he was getting out, severely injuring his leg, state police Sgt. Eric Van Dyke said. Bohnert was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
