STERLING – Sean David Gerdy, 40, of Sterling, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at his home, after a yearlong, and hard-fought, battle with cancer. He was employed as the safety coordinator/project manager at Sterling Commercial Roofing.

Sean was born April 28, 1972, in Sterling, the son of F. Lee and Kathryn (McDonnell) Gerdy.

Sean enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his fiancé, playing Frisbee with his special friend, Diesel, at the park, and fishing with his dad and friends. He was an amazing cook. Sean also was an avid NASCAR fan, with Tony Stewart being his favorite driver.

Survivors include his parents, Lee and Kathy Gerdy of Sterling; maternal grandmother, Jackie Price of Sun City, Ariz.; his fiancé, Ashley Nance of Sterling; and one sister, Heather (Austin) Hanabarger, and three nephews, Brennan, Jace and Landyn Hanabarger, all of Camp Lejeune, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Lois Gerdy; and maternal grandfather, Herbert McDonnell.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling. The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling with Monsignor Bill McDonnell officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded.

A memorial has been established.
