DIXON – Donald Franklin Heckman, 83, of Dixon, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at KSB Hospital in Dixon. He was a welder at Etnyre Co. in Oregon for 28 years before retiring.

Donald was born Nov. 26, 1929, in Lanark, the son of Frank and Zella (Bowers) Heckman. He married Barbara Ellinger on June 24, 1950, in Park Ridge.  

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Heckman of Dixon; one son, David Heckman of Polo; one daughter, Lori (Gary) Strong of Shannon; two brothers, Ron (Mary) Heckman and John (Donna) Heckman; one sister, Patsy (Jerry) Witt; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Julie Shenefelt; and his sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Fred Miller.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., Saturday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Cremation rites have been accorded.

A memorial has been established to Home of Hope.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
