Boys basketball: Dukes notch second straight win
Dixon holds off Clippers in Amboy; Prophets top Steamers
The Dixon Dukes have some momentum going now.
A night after picking up their first-ever NIB-12 West win, the Dukes grabbed another road victory Saturday, beating the Amboy Clippers 57-55.
Dixon led 39-33 by the end of three quarters before holding off an Amboy rally. Clipper sophomore Logan Thake's 3-pointer was off the mark in the waning seconds, and Dixon hung on.
The Dukes (2-5) had five players score at least nine points. Cal Jarrett and Mike Conley had 13 each, Laron Carr added 11, Isaiah Roby chipped in 10 and Matt Coffey matched Jarrett's three 3-pointers and finished with nine points. In all, Dixon nailed 11 3s.
"It was pretty nice tonight, a good team effort," Dixon coach Jason Mead said. "We moved the ball well, spread it around, and fought through some adversity to get the win."
Tyson Powers had 17 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter for the Clippers (2-5), hitting seven of his team's nine 3-pointers. Damon Quest chipped in 11 points.
Prophetstown 68, Fulton 53: The Prophets scored 18 points or more in three of the four quarters at home to pick up a Three Rivers victory.
Devin Johnson and Ethan Howard scored 16 points apiece for Prophetstown (5-2, 3-0).
Jake Willging scored 15 for the Steamers (0-6, 0-2), with Nick Fish and T.J Huizenga finishing with 11 points each.
Bureau Valley 71, Hall 48: The Storm hit 30 of their 40 free-throw attempts, including 15 of 21 in the fourth quarter, to roll past the Red Devils in Spring Valley.
Parker Neuhalfen scored 22 for BV (5-3), hitting a pair of 3s and 10 of his 11 free throws. Frank Gebeck added 14 points.
Eastland Shootout
Indian Creek 69, Milledgeville 42: The Missiles were outscored 54-21 through the first three quarters of a loss in Lanark.
Kameron DawTyne scored nine points, Lucas Ebersole added eight for Milledgeville (2-3).
Orion 44, West Carroll 36: The Thunder were outscored 5-1 from the free-throw line in a loss in Lanark.
Tommy Losch had 14 points and six rebounds for West Carroll (1-4), while Nick Hughes finished with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Victory Christian tournament
Faith splits in Indiana: The Faith Christian Falcons split two games a the Victory Christian tournament in Indiana.
Faith (3-2) lost its first game 41-39 in disputed fashion as Blake Hudson's 3-pointer with 3 seconds remaining was waved off because of a traveling call. Adam Dettman had 17 points.
Faith rallied to Family Faith Christian from Moline 53-50 in the second game. Dettman had 18 points and Kyle Beach added 13.
Men's basketball
Sauk Valley 69, St. Francis 64: Daven Ottley had 19 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks as the Skyhawks won the DuPage tournament in Glen Ellyn.
Also for Sauk Valley (5-3), Jalen Riley had 15 points and Magd Owayed added 13 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Carlos Hendrix chipped in with 10 assists and seven points, with just three turnovers. He had a 17-to-5 assist-to-turnover ratio in the tourney.
