CHICAGO – ComEd staff have taken steps to prepare for winter weather, including inspections and preventive maintenance of power lines and substations.

Some tips for homeowners to get ready for winter include:

■ Inspecting caulking and weatherstripping around all windows, doors and openings for utility services.

■ Having home heating systems cleaned and inspected by a professional.

■ Keeping 3 feet of space between space heaters and any surfaces that could burn.

■ Reversing the rotation of ceiling fan blades during the winter to redistribute warm air.

ComEd also is offering financial assistance programs for qualifying customers.
