Girls basketball roundup: Comets pull away from Three Rivers victory over Fulton

Over the final three periods, the Newman Comets steadily pulled away from Fulton in a 60-37 Three Rivers victory Thursday in Sterling.
Junior Mary Alice Oswalt spearheaded the Newman (5-3, 2-0 Three Rivers) attack with 14 points, but Jaimie Hurd had her fingerprints all over the box score with 11 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Bree de Long added 13 points.
Fulton (3-3, 0-1) got 12 points from Morgan Wierema.
Prophetstown 54, Cambridge 34: Clare Kramer scored six of her game-high 17 points in the third period, and the Prophets outscored their visitors 33-13 in the second half.
The game was tied 21-21 at the half. Riley Walters scored 13 points for the Prophets (7-1), who closed the game with a 20-8 advantage in the fourth period.
Riverdale 54, Amboy 39: Elle May scored a game-high 21 points and the Rams pulled away late for a Three Rivers victory in Amboy.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Liebing scored a team-high 18 points for Amboy (3-4, 0-2), which outscored Riverdale (5-1, 2-1) 9-8 in the third to get within eight points at 41-33 heading into the fourth.
Erie 64, Morrison 32: Courtney Cobert stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, six rebounds and six assists, and her Cardinals jumped out to a 33-13 lead at the half in Erie.
Des Lawson scored a game-high 13 points for Erie (6-1, 1-1), and Rachel Cobert chipped in six points and nine rebounds.
Ashley Greul led the Fillies (0-3, 0-3 Three Rivers) with 11 points.
Durand 60, AFC 31: The Raiders trailed 35-21 on their home floor before being outscored 16-2 in the third period of an NUIC East matchup.
Caitlin Derus hit three 3s and had a game-high 21 points for Durand (5-2, 2-1). Sarah Matson led AFC (4-2, 0-2) with 14 points, and Alisyn Essex added 10.
Dakota 47, Polo 25: A 20-8 deficit at the half was too much for the Marcos to overcome in an NUIC East game in Polo.
Jaycee Cleaver shot 5-for-6 from beyond the arc in the first period and connected six times total from downtown for a game-high 23 points for Dakota (4-4, 2-0). Brecken Albrecht led Polo (2-4, 1-1) with eight points.
Orangeville 43, Milledgeville 42, OT: The Missiles were unable to get off the schneid in front of their home crowd in an NUIC East tilt.
The Broncos (2-4, 1-1) outscored Milledgeville (0-7, 0-2) 4-3 in overtime. Courtney Swalve had a team-high 10 points for Milledgeville, which tied the game at 33 with a 14-9 advantage in the third.
Galena 41, West Carroll 33: The Thunder rallied against the NUIC West foe but couldn’t overcome a 25-12 deficit at the half in Galena.
Galena (4-2, 1-0 NUIC West) built its lead at the break with a 14-5 second period. Ieshia Larson and Kaylee Vos led the way for West Carroll (0-3, 0-2) with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
