MORRISON – A group of 23 Morrison Junior High and High School students competed Nov. 17 at the Illinois Music Educators Association District 8 Festival at DeKalb High School.
Morrison was one of 85 schools represented at the festival, with more than 2,000 students auditioning for spots in one of seven musical ensembles. Junior ensembles included a band, mixed chorus, treble chorus and string orchestra, while senior ensembles were a band, mixed chorus and symphony orchestra.
District 8 includes area counties of Carroll, Lee, Ogle and Whiteside. Morrison students earning high honors were seniors Victoria Horn, Savannah Horn and Heather Elfline and seventh grader Kaleb McCoy.
Participating in the senior band from Morrison were Savannah Horn on flute; Victoria Horn and Morgan DeVorah on clarinet; Colleen Elfline on alto saxophone; and Kyle McCoy on trumpet.
Senior chorus participants were Olivia Vander Bleek, Isabelle Vander Bleek, Kurtis Klimson, Andrew Rinker and Caitlynn Kruse. Heather Elfline played piccolo in the symphony orchestra.
Junior band performers from Morrison were Lauren Bender on flute; Kaleb McCoy and Morgan Stuhlmann on clarinet; Darrin Bielema on alto saxophone; Zach Osborn on trombone; and Isaac Damhoff on percussion.
Participating in the junior mixed chorus were Illinijana Dzeladini, Ashley Hagerman, Rachel Magana and Logan Scott. Allison Houldson and Tessa Vander Bleek took part in the junior treble chorus.
