Local students earn recognition at music contest

MORRISON – A group of 23 Morrison Junior High and High School students competed Nov. 17 at the Illinois Music Educators Association District 8 Festival at DeKalb High School.

Morrison was one of 85 schools represented at the festival, with more than 2,000 students auditioning for spots in one of seven musical ensembles. Junior ensembles included a band, mixed chorus, treble chorus and string orchestra, while senior ensembles were a band, mixed chorus and symphony orchestra.  

District 8 includes area counties of Carroll, Lee, Ogle and Whiteside. Morrison students earning high honors were seniors Victoria Horn, Savannah Horn and Heather Elfline and seventh grader Kaleb McCoy.
