Kenneth M. Miller

DIXON – Kenneth M. Miller, 93, of Dixon, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Heritage Square in Dixon. He worked at Freeman Shoe Factory, farmed, drove a truck and worked as a custodial engineer before retiring.

Kenneth was born June 30, 1919, in Nachusa, the son of Jessie and Daisy (Sarver) Miller. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was discharged as a sergeant. Kenneth served his country in England, France, Belgium, Germany, the Panama Canal Zone, New Guinea, the Philippine Islands, and Japan. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon; Lee County Council on Aging; American Legion Post 12, Dixon Elks Lodge BPOE 779; Moose Lodge 727; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 540.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Miller of Dixon; one stepdaughter, Bonnie (Kevin) O’Neal of Knightdale, N.C.; one sister, Bernie (Arthur) Horton of Dixon; three stepgranddaughters; three step-great-grandsons; and three step-great-granddaughters.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, and from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Janet Wittenmyer, pastor, officiating. Burial, with full military graveside services provided by the combined veterans organizations, will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.   

A memorial has been established to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon.
