DIXON – The Rock River Valley Chapter of VietNow’s 24th annual POW/MIA Christmas tree lighting and vigil is Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park, on Palmyra Road on the west edge of town.

The group will light a red bulb for each missing Illinois Vietnam vet, and an orange bulb for veterans missing from the wars in Southwest Asia. Bulbs also will be lighted for those missing from World War II and the Korean War.

The vigil begins at noon, with a grand lighting ceremony around 6 p.m. A candle presentation by members of the audience follows at 6:15, then Christmas carols will be sung and an unveiling of a POW in a tiger cage will take place.

Fifth Fridays in Franklin Grove

FRANKLIN GROVE – Fans of the popular Fifth Friday Music Shows at the historic H.I. Lincoln Building are in for a special treat: Noted bluesmen Ted Lawrence and Chuck Scordato, performing as The Saltines, will put on two shows, at 7 and 9 p.m.

Tickets are $10 at the Lincoln from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, or call 815-456-3030. Seating is limited, so check before you go: tickets may not be available at the door.

The Christ is Come Tour

STERLING – The Christ is Come Christmas concert, featuring Big Daddy Weave and Mikeschair, starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Sterling High School's Centennial Auditorium, 1608 Fourth Ave. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10, or $8 per person for groups of 10 or more. They are available at the box office from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; at wcicfm.org/the-christ-is-come-tour and at the door. Group ticket purchases must be made through the box office.

DIXON – The Dixon Municipal Band's annual Christmas concert, featuring local musicians playing holiday favorites, begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Dixon Theatre, 114 S. Galena Ave. Tickets are $5 for adults; ages 5 and younger are admitted free.
