The Hokies (6-0) broke away with a 19-1 run spanning the halves, then withstood a run that pulled the Hawkeyes to within 57-54 with 12 minutes left. Virginia Tech then went on a 12-4 burst to rebuild the margin.
Aaron White had 21 points to lead the Hawkeyes (5-2) and Roy Devyn Marble added 18.
Maryland 77, Northwestern 57: Dez Wells set a career high with 23 points as Maryland blew out Northwestern in the second half in Evanston.
Maryland (5-1) led 28-26 at halftime but broke the game open in the second half, scoring on its first 10 possessions. The run stretched the lead to 47-34.
Reggie Hearn had 19 points and Dave Sobolewski 14 for Northwestern (6-1), which was denied a fifth straight ACC/Big Ten Challenge win.
No. 1 Indiana 83, No. 14 N. Carolina 59: Cody Zeller had 20 points and eight rebounds as the top-ranked Hoosiers won at home with stunning ease.
Victor Oladipo and Will Sheehey both added 19 points for the Hoosiers (7-0), who have won 34 consecutive November games at home.
The Tar Heels (5-2) were led by Dexter Strickland with 14 points and Marcus Paige with 11. North Carolina managed just three points and one field goal – a tip-in that Indiana may have gotten a hand on – in the first 8½ minutes of the second half.
No. 3 Michigan 79, No. 18 N.C. State 72: Trey Burke had 18 points and a career-high 11 assists without a turnover as the Wolverines held off a late Wolfpack rally in Ann Arbor.
Freshman Nik Stauskas led the Wolverines (6-0) with 20 points and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 16.
T.J. Warren had 18 points N.C. State (4-2), which trailed 73-58 before going on a 10-0 run.
No. 21 Minnesota 77, Florida St. 68: Joe Coleman scored 16 points and Rodney Williams added 14 as the Golden Gophers went on the road and beat the defending ACC champion Seminoles.
Austin Hollins added 13 points and Andre Hollins had 12 for Minnesota (7-1), who never trailed.
Reserve Terrance Shannon led Florida State (4-2) with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Nebraska 79, Wake Forest 63: Ray Gallegos scored 17 of his career-high 20 points after halftime as the Cornhuskers won on the road.
Andre Almeida matched his career high with 20 points to go with a career-best 11 rebounds for Nebraska (5-1). After leading 28-24 at the break, the Huskers scored on 16 of their first 19 possessions of the second half.
Ill.-Chicago 58, N. Illinois 46: Hayden Humes scored 18 points and Daniel Barnes added 11 points and eight rebounds as the Flames (5-1) won in DeKalb for their fifth win in the last six games between the teams.
Sam Mader had 15 points for NIU (1-4), which shot just 32.7 percent (16 of 49) from the floor.
DePaul 85, Fairfield 78: Cleveland Melvin matched a career high with 30 points, and Brandon Young added 20 as the Blue Demons snapped a two-game losing streak by holding off a late Fairfield rally in Chicago.
Derek Needham paced Fairfield (3-4) with a career-high 29 points.
