Nine Sterling Golden Warriors and one Dixon Duke were named to the Northern Illinois Big 12 West all-conference team, released Tuesday.
Sterling seniors Tanner Morse (QB), Cornell Hartz (RB), Brandon O’Brien (OL), Curtis Lilly (DL), Temo Barron (DB) and Salomon Ocampo (K), juniors Logan Wharff (WR) and Matt Spaulding (OL), and sophomore Brandon Dennis (LB) were all selected to the squad, as was Dixon senior wideout Andrew Smith.
Ottawa senior Michael Hermosillo (RB) and junior Cyrano Rayfield (DL) were named the league’s MVPs on offense and defense. For a complete list of the team, see B4.
Bears sign veteran lineman Gurode
The Chicago Bears signed 34-year-old offensive
lineman Andre Gurode, who last suited up for the Baltimore Ravens during the AFC Championship game in January.
Gurode performed well enough in a tryout Tuesday at Halas Hall to be signed to a contract 2 days after the team lost two guards to injury in Sunday’s victory over the Vikings.
ACC files lawsuit against Maryland

Conference has sued the University of Maryland, seeking a declaration that the departing school owes the full $52,266,342 stipulated by the conference’s constitution.
University of Maryland President Wallace D. Loh has repeatedly asserted that the school would not end up paying the full exit fee. Maryland plans to join the Big Ten in July 2014.
Stoops leaving FSU to coach Kentucky
Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops is leaving FSU to become the head coach at Kentucky.
Stoops plans to stay at FSU at least through Saturday’s ACC championship game.
Cubs sign Rangers castoff Feldman
The Chicago Cubs signed Scott Feldman to a 1-year, $6-million contract after the Texas Rangers declined the pitcher’s option for 2013.
Feldman chose the Cubs over a few other teams because he was guaranteed a spot in the rotation.
Phillies catcher Ruiz suspended 25 games
Philadelphia Phillies All-Star catcher Carlos Ruiz was suspended 25 games after testing positive for an amphetamine.
The suspension of Ruiz, who set career-highs in batting average (.325), RBIs (68) and home runs (16) last season, is effective at the start of the 2013 regular season.
Roethlisberger: I’ll try to play Sunday
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says he’s going to try to play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
The Steelers have lost both their games since the quarterback suffered his shoulder/rib injury.
