Police on lookout for shoplifters

STERLING – Sterling police are looking for two men who stole electronic items from Menards Monday around 9:30 a.m.

According to Sterling police, employees confronted one man outside the store; he fled south on foot. The other man left in a white Pontiac Grand Prix driven by a woman.

The Grand Prix and the woman were found in the Walmart parking lot across the street; her passenger, she said, had fled. She and a third man were questioned and released.

The two men sought are white. One is about 50, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 140 to 160 pounds, with facial hair. He was wearing a black stocking cap, brown coat, blue jeans and white sneakers. The other man in his early 20s, 5 feet 6 inches tall, about 140 pounds. He was wearing a red stocking cap, tan coat, black gloves and dark pants.

Anyone with pertinent information is asked to call police at 815-632-6640, or the anonymous reward tip line, Whiteside County Crime Stoppers, at 877-625-7867.

Information leading to an arrest and conviction can bring a reward of up to $1,000.
