Boys basketball roundup: Prophets slip by Storm

Faith wins; Fulton, Morrison, Sauk men fall

Ethan Howard led Prophetstown with 14 points and Devin Johnson chipped in 13 as Prophetstown edged Bureau Valley 58-55 in overtime Tuesday at home.

Brian Lange scored 14 and Parker Neuhalfen added 13 for Bureau Valley.

Kewanee 76, Fulton 45: Devon Kuehl scored 14 points and T.J. Huizenga added 13 for the Steamers in a loss to Kewanee.

Kewanee’s Dayton Ince dropped 26 points and was helped out by Donovan Oliver who added 20 to lead the Boilermakers to a Three Rivers home victory.

Riverdale 73, Morrison 42: The Rams ran out to a 24-14 lead after one quarter and cruised past the Mustangs in Three Rivers Conference play at Morrison.

Jared Richmond scored 19 points to pace Riverdale (5-0, 1-0). Alexander Volckmann led the Mustangs (1-5, 0-1) with 13 points. Teammate Kyle Meurs added 10.

Faith Christian 52, Tri-State 50: Adam Dettman’s two free throws with 25 seconds left was the margin of victory for the Falcons in Galena.

Isaac Weber then blocked a potential game-tying 10-foot jumper by Tri-State’s Preston Cernek with 2 seconds remaining to preserve the win.

Dettman had 15 points, four assists and four rebounds to lead Faith (2-1, 1-0 NICC). Blake Hudson finished with 10 points, four steals and three assists, while Aaron Clardie added 10 points.

Austin Nuce paced Tri-State with 19 points and Cernek added 14.

Men’s hoops

Waubonsee 70, Sauk Valley 62: The Skyhawks led 33-31 at halftime, but were unable to hang on in Sugar Grove.

Magd Owayed had 11 points, nine rebounds and five assists to lead Sauk Valley (3-3). Jalen Riley and Daven Ottley each added 10 points.
