St. Bede hands Newman loss; Fulton picks up third win
Comets fall in Peru
Mary Alice Oswalt scored 15 points and Rachel Hageman added 11 for the Newman girls basketball team in a 53-37 loss at Peru St. Bede on Monday.
The Comets (4-3) trailed just 17-15 after the first quarter, but the Bruins steadily pulled away. Hageman also grabbed eight rebounds and Aubree Schmitt added seven.
Marisa Hermosillo scored 14 points and Lydia Stariha added 13 for St. Bede.
Hall 36, Bureau Valley 29: Lacey DeVenney scored eight points and Nicole Bornsheuer added seven for the Storm in a loss to the Red Devils in Spring Valley.
Also for Bureau Valley (1-6), Irini Petros grabbed 12 rebounds.
Fulton 56, Mercer County 33: Morgan Wierema tossed in 19 points to lead the Steamers to a road win over the Golden Eagles in Aledo.
Also for Fulton (3-2), Samantha Raab and Morgan Sanquist each had 11 points.
Amboy 55, LaMoille 31: The Clippers (3-3) rolled past the Lions in a non-conference game in LaMoille. No other details were provided by press time.
Dixon 3,773, LaSalle-Peru 3,457: Andrew Hamburg's big series propeled the Dukes to a victory at LaSalle-Peru.
Hamburg rolled games of 256-244 and 178 for a 678 series. He was followed by Lucas Bonnette (671), Connor Allen (662), Brandon Bonnette (631), Ryan Dixon (622) and Josh Rex (509).
Dakota Koenig had a 608 and Justin Burks added a 607 for the Cavaliers.
Dixon 3,234, LaSalle-Peru 2,763: Emily Quaco's 608 series lifted the Duchesses past the Cavaliers in LaSalle.
Quaco rolled games of 177, 191 and 240. She was backed by Autumn Day (586), Devan Gearhart (572), Kayla Bonnette (499), Margaret Thomas (485) and Michaela Bates (484).
