Christmas activities coming to Sublette

SUBLETTE – The annual Christmas in the Village will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Ellice Dinges Center, 202 S. West St.

A gingerbread house will be open. Bakers can drop off their goods by 5 p.m. to the center to compete.

There also will be food, caroling and a craft show.

Santa will arrive at 6 p.m. aboard a fire truck with treats for children. Free door prizes will be awarded, and a 50/50 drawing will take place. Donations of food and toys for those in need will be accepted. Call 815-849-5582 for more information.

Wise saw collapse in support

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
