Be a part of countywide history book

Published: Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 1:15 a.m. CDT

Right now, the residents of Whiteside County have a unique opportunity. You might call it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Your family’s history can be a part of the new county history book being completed at this time.

This attractive 8.5-by-11-inch hardbound history book will be in numerous libraries and on countless shelves in homes for years to come. Be sure your family story is included. We want your story if you have lived in the county for a few years or for many generations.

Family histories of 500 words plus one photograph will be published at no cost to you. There is a charge for additional words and photos. Send completed histories to: Whiteside County History and Families Book, Whiteside County Genealogists, P.O. Box 145, Sterling, IL 61081. Be sure to include your return address and a phone number.

You will want the history of your business, farm or organization on record. Pictures help tell your story. There is a reasonable fee for these submissions. Tell the story of your church or school for a reduced rate.

The last county history book was published in 1968. Our county has seen many changes since then. It is definitely time for a new history book. The Whiteside County Genealogists and the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society, with other historical societies in the county, are cooperating to complete this publication.

For additional information, contact your area historical society or email genealogy@sterlingpubliclibrary.org or call either 815-626-2700 or 815-772-3107.

Note to readers – Marjorie Bowman is in charge of publicity and is a member of the Whiteside County Genealogists.
