Ruth Ann ‘Bootsie’ Sarafian
DIXON – Ruth Ann “Bootsie” Sarafian, 90, of Dixon, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon. She worked for Central Telephone Co. prior to her retirement.
Ruth was born April 2, 1922, in Decatur, the daughter of Joseph Henry and Mae (Reedy) VonDeBur. She married Albert John Sarafian on May 1, 1943, in Decatur. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1972.
She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon for 45 years. Ruth was first and foremost passionate about her family. She was a “Life Master” bridge player, active with numerous clubs and winning many tournaments. Ruth was a devout Catholic, unwavering in her faith. Her family credits Ruth’s friends and the kindness of Dixon as a whole for her ability to remain independent and active throughout her life.
Survivors include one son, Mark Gerard (Sandra) Sarafian of Fort Myers, Fla.; two daughters, Marybeth S. (Kevin) Arduini of Mapleton, Carole Ann (Doyle) Alexander of Fort Myers; one brother, Bob (Donna) VonDeBur of Decatur, 10 grandchildren, Tim Moore, Joseph (Steph) Moore, Steve (Beth) Alexander, Darrell (Sharrie) Alexander, Tamre (Randy) Simmons, Tessa Sarafian, Kali Arduini, AJ Sarafian, Katie Arduini, Luke Sarafian; and 10 great-grandchildren, Jesse, Bryson, Morgan, Adina, Jarred, Jordan, Davy, Melissa, Haley Jo and Alex. Ruth’s in-laws described her as the “mother and sister of their hearts.”
She also was preceded in death by her parents.
Due to her loving nature, Ruth decided to make a gift of her body to the Anatomical Gift Association. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of her life will be held in the spring at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon.
A memorial has been established to Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon.
