AMBOY – Robert C. Flessner, 87, of Amboy, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Rockford Memorial Hospital. 

He was born Aug. 12, 1925, in Amboy, the son of Carl and Luella (Dewey) Flessner. He had worked for ComEd for 41 years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of the Navy during World War II and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy.

Robert married Elaine Schultz on May 2, 1953, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mendota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Richard “Dick” Flessner, and a sister, Dorothy Rhodes. 

He is survived by his wife; sons, Joe (Marcia) Flessner of Amboy and Tim (Tami) Flessner of Sublette; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Nick) Mumm, Kayla Flessner, Kelly Flessner and Derek Flessner, and three great-grandchildren, Gage, Abel and Blake Mumm. He is also survived by brother-in-law, Don Rhodes of Paxton, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy, with the rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, beginning with a 10 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy with the Rev. Michael Morrissey officiating. Burial with military honors by the Amboy American Legion Post will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy.
