Local roundup: Sterling bowlers place 7th

Sterling finished seventh and Dixon was 12th in the 17-team Rock Island Girls Bowling Invitational on Saturday at Highland Park Lanes.

The Golden Warriors had a total pinfall of 5,408. Lockport won the event with 5,955, just ahead of Harlem’s 5,937. Rounding out the top five were Rockford Jefferson (5,642), Freeport (5,539) and DeKalb (5,514).

Amber Granzow led Sterling with 1,173, followed by Megan Tintori (1,106) and Brandy Behrens (1,099).

The top three Dixon bowlers were Autumn Day (1,163), Devan Gearhart (1,136) and Emily Quaco (970).

Lockport’s Nicole Troha (1,295) edged United Township’s Kayla Crawford (1,293) for top individual honors.

Wrestling

Rockets 3-0 at home: Rock Falls improved to 7-0 in duals with a trio of home victories – 66-12 over Mendota, 36-27 against Princeton and 63-15 over Pecatonica-Durand.

Breu Knox (106 pounds), Carlos Gutierrez (126) and Roberto Arellano (145) each won two matches for Rock Falls.

Dixon 0-5 in Algonquin: The Dukes dropped five tough matches at the Jacobs Duals, filling just six of the 14 weight classes.

Kylian Lally went 5-0 at 138 pounds with three pins, a major decision and a forfeit. Also posting winning records for Dixon were Trent Brinkmeier (4-1 at 132, 2 pins) and Josh Musgrove (3-2 at 285, 2 major decisions).
