FRANKLIN GROVE – James Murray O’Brien, 83, of Franklin Grove, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center. He had been a truck driver for 62 years, most recently driving for Maplehurst Farms.  

He was born June 17, 1929, in Dundee, the son of Murray and Mary (Mullarky) O’Brien. He married Donna Payne on June 14, 1952, in Harmon. She preceded him in death on June 21, 2001. 

Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend of many. He enjoyed trucking, restoring cars and playing cards, and was known for telling many jokes.

He is survived by eight daughters, Mary Jane (Keith) Shaw of Amboy, Linda (Peter) Bagnuolo of Wheaton, Bev (Tom) Lally of Sebastian, Fla., Janet (Brett) Mariani of Bloomington, Pat (Joe) Lachat of Franklin Grove and Diane (Jeff) Roop, both of Franklin Grove, Karen (Tom) Cecchetti of Bolingbrook and Jackie (Jeff) James of Marengo; one son, Dan (Chris) O’Brien of Dixon; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He also is survived by one sister, Fran Hume of Madison, Wis

He also was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Bella McQueen O’Brien; a grandson, Timothy O’Brien; brothers, William and Russell O’Brien; and sisters, Marge Phoenix, Dorothy Nelson and Mary Juby.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., with the rosary recited at 7 p.m., Sunday in the Holloway Center at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. John Gow officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Jones Funeral Home in Dixon handled arrangements.

A memorial has been established to Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center.
