Newman opens Three Rivers play with win over Amboy

Rachel Hageman and Mary Alice Oswalt each scored eight points for Newman (4-2, 1-0). 

Autumn Smith had 12 points for Amboy (2-3, 0-1). Kaitlyn Liebing had eight points. 

Prophetstown 65, Bureau Valley 14: The Prophets held the Storm scoreless in the first half in a Three Rivers win in Prophetstown. 

Riley Walters led the way with 14 points and Corrie Reiley had 11 points for the Prophets (4-1, 1-0). 

Nicole Bornsheuer had eight points for Bureau Valley (1-5, 0-1). 

Riverdale 53, Morrison 18: Despite shooting just 4-for-15 from the free throw line, the Rams were able to score a convincing win on their home floor in Port Byron.

Elle May led all scorers with 17 points, and the Rams (4-0, 1-0) led 31-9 at the half. Point guard Lakin Goodman led Morrison (0-2, 0-2) with nine points.

Erie 51, Monmouth United 38: The Cardinals improved to 5-0 behind 23 points from Paige Rus in Erie. 

Des Lawson and Kayla Waggoner added nine points apiece for the Cardinals.

Forreston tournament

Eastland 45, Stockton 37: Izy Todd and Hannah Hake each scored 10 points to lead the Cougars to a win over Stockton at the Forreston tournament. 

Christa Vandenburgh added six points for Eastland (5-1).

Women's basketball

South Suburban 68, Sauk Valley 64: Newman graduate Brianna Richardson had 16 points and 12 rebounds, but the Skyhawks could not rally past South Suburban in Dixon. 

Arlicia Turner had 15 points and seven rebounds while Dixon graduate Holly Nicklaus had 13 points and five assists.
