STERLING – The city will hold a special meeting Monday night on its 2012-13 tax levy.

City Manager Scott Shumard will deliver a short presentation on the levy, which he estimates will be 8.5 percent to 9.5 percent higher to help cover the city’s soaring pension costs.

Shumard has posted the actuaries’ reports on the fire and pension funds on the city’s website. Go to sterling-il.gov and click on Departments, then on the Finance Department’s contracts and reports.

The levy will be approved in December.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall Annex, 200 W. Third St. (in the old Blockbuster building). Call 815-632-6621 for more information.
