DuPage Co. holds first televised court hearing
WHEATON (AP) — DuPage County's top prosecutor says the first foray into having cameras in court in a Chicago-area criminal case went smoothly but it's too early to issue a final verdict.
DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin says he didn't notice that cameras during a brief hearing Wednesday.
Elzbieta Plackowska of Naperville pleaded not guilty during the hearing to murder charges in the deaths of her son and a girl she was babysitting.
Asked afterward if he thinks cameras in the courtroom are a good idea, Berlin responded: "We'll see." He says he's concerned cameras could be a distraction or harm a defendant's right to a fair trial.
Public defender Michael Mara declined to comment on the cameras, saying his only job is to represent Plackowska.
