Setup for Oregon's annual Candlelight Walk was in full swing Monday morning. Jena Grover and Jon Barnhart straighten branches on a Christmas tree in the foyer of the Coliseum.

OREGON – Downtown Oregon will be decked out for the holidays from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday when it kicks off the Christmas season at the 26th annual Candlelight Walk.

Entertainment, food and giveaways are just a small part of the evening’s events.

Santa Claus will light the Christmas tree on the Coliseum lawn at 4 p.m. to begin the festivities.

Luminaria will light the downtown, compliments of the Oregon Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and Oregon High School Key Club.

Candy Cane Corner in the former Bemis Ford building and parking lot across from the Coliseum is one of this year’s new features.

Candlelight Walk Committee member Deb Leffelman said Santa’s hut will be located on Candy Cane Corner, along with a balloon artist, the Oregon Lions Club food booth, Hermes Kettle Corn, KOOL FM radio, and the Oregon Park District Summit Snowshoe Club.

“That whole corner is new. We’re really excited about it,” she said.

Businesses throughout the downtown will extend hours for shoppers to find holiday bargains, gifts, and refreshments.

Youngsters can visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the hut from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on their way to see Santa’s reindeer at First National Bank.

A Holiday Gift Fair featuring 39 vendors will be at the Coliseum, offering a variety of items and information.

In the downstairs, Laura & Jay’s Cafe and Pizza Hut will serve a variety of food.

Entertainment from music to drama to dance will be offered throughout the evening at the Coliseum.

Conover Square will host live entertainment, refreshments and plenty of holiday décor.

Shoppers also can get involved in the Hysterical Holiday Hunt. Collect clues from designated Red Bow sponsor locations and answer the questions for a chance to win the grand prize package of dinner at LaVigna and an overnight stay at the White Pines Inn.

Once the Hysterical Holiday Hunt form is completed, drop it off at Candy Cane Corner with KOOL FM for the drawing.

Shoppers also can win $250 in Candlelight Cash by entering the Red Bow giveaway at participating businesses.

Horse-drawn wagon rides will be available all evening, taking riders throughout the downtown to view holiday lights and decorations.
