Boys basketball roundup: Warriors hit court running, win in Morrison
The Sterling Golden Warriors began both halves of their Sauk Valley Shootout game in Morrison with the pedal pressed to the metal in a 57-41 victory.
For the second straight night, Zach Rehmert led Sterling (2-0) with 15 points, nine coming from beyond the arc. The Warriors led 19-8 after one and outscored Morrison (0-2) 21-10 in the third period to open up a 49-28 lead going into the fourth.
Micah Miller scored 10 points for Sterling. Alexander Volckmann led the Mustangs with 13 points.
ROWVA 63, Prophetstown 59: The Prophets took a two-point lead with 29 seconds left, but ROWVA took the lead back with 5.9 seconds left to win at the Ridgewood tournament.
Carter Ames led Prophetstown (0-1) with 15 points, while Zach Inskeep (13 points), Devin Johnson (12) and Josh Green (11) also hit double-figures.
Monmouth-Roseville 61, Erie 55: The Cardinals trailed 32-21 at halftime and couldn’t rally in Orion.
Jacob Johnston scored 19 points for Erie (0-2), and Connor Saad added 12.
Rockridge 71, Fulton 36: The Steamers were outscored 44-16 in the second and third quarters of a loss at Orion.
Nick Fish led Fulton (0-2) with nine points, and Kody Crosthwaite added eight. Wisconsin recruit Ethan Happ poured in 36 for the Rockets (2-0).
Polo 82, LaMoille 59: The Marcos led 52-32 at the half and 73-38 after three periods at home.
Polo senior Brady Bushman hit three 3s and led all scorers with 17 points, and the Cavanaugh brothers, Brian and Brad, added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
AFC 63, Hiawatha 50: Sophomore guard Bret Gittleson scored 17 points and led the Raiders to a win in Kirkland.
AFC led just 28-24 at the half and outscored its host 18-10 in the third period.
Fulton Unity 37, Faith 25: Nolan Willoughby scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Knights past the Falcons in the of Unity tournament title game in Fulton.
Collin Willoughby added 10 points for the Knights (2-0). Aaron Clardie and Isaac Weber scored six points apiece for Faith (1-1). Weber also had 16 rebounds and four blocks.
South Suburban 76, Sauk Valley 58: The Skyhawks were in it on their home floor until the final 10 minutes, when South Suburban starting switching defensive schemes.
Jalen Riley hit three 3s and led Sauk (3-2) with 17 points. Bryce Walter led South Suburban (4-1), which led just 37-36 at the half, with 22 points.
