ROCK FALLS – City Council members agreed Tuesday night to make the downtown Riverside Bike & Walk District a mixed-zoning district.
Among the permitted uses in a mixed-zoning district are two-family dwellings, art studios and galleries, bed-and-breakfasts and fishing piers.
After the meeting, Mayor David Blanton said bringing new development to downtown is just the first step in what he hopes the zoning will accomplish.
“If you look at Naperville, Quad Cities, a lot of other areas, there’s mixed uses,” he said. “Sterling’s in the process of doing a mixed use on their riverfront as well. We’ve talked with them, and we’re trying to get them so that they’re both pretty well the same.”
He said the change gives the city more latitude to develop.
