The Amboy Clippers got hot from long range in the second half Monday, rallying past LaMoille-Ohio 47-41 for a season-opening win at the AFC tournament.
Damon Quest hit all six of his 3-pointers in the second half and scored a game-high 24 points for the Clippers (1-0). Tyson Powers added two more 3s and finished with 16 points as Amboy erased a 24-16 halftime deficit with a 31-17 scoring edge in the second half.
Brandon Morris paced LaMoille-Ohio with 21 points.
Polo 79, AFC 61: After falling behind 23-14 after one quarter, the Marcos outscored the Raiders 65-38 the rest of the way in a win at the AFC tournament.
Brady Bushman scored 18 points to lead Polo, while Brian Cavanaugh (15 points), AJ Dollmeyer (13 points) and Brian Cavanaugh (10 points) also scored in double figures.
Troy Mairs had 18 points to pace AFC (0-1), while Ermir Ramadani added 16 and Nick McClanahan chipped in 12.
Sauk Valley Shootout
Princeton 63, Morrison 31: The Mustangs opened the season with a loss on the road to the Tigers.
Bureau Valley 68, Annawan 35: Parker Neuhalfen hit four 3-pointers, and tied teammate Tommy Johnston with a game-high 18 points for the Storm in Kewanee.
Logan Hoffert chipped in seven points for BV (1-0), which led 34-21 at halftime before outscoring Annawan 34-14 in the second half.
Rockridge 60, Erie 31: The Cardinals fell behind 23-8 after one quarter and never recovered in an opening loss at Orion.
Connor Saad had nine points and three rebounds for Erie (0-1). Ethan Happ, a Wisconsin recruit, paced the Rockets with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Oregon 63, West Carroll 44: Caleb Mowry scored 16 points and Alec Ketter had 15 to lead the Hawks to victory in their own tournament.
Jessie McKinley Jr. chipped in 10 points as Oregon (1-0) took advantage of 31 turnovers by the Thunder (0-1). Jordan Bacero led West Carroll with eight points.
River Ridge tournament
River Ridge 61, Milledgeville 43: The Missiles dropped their season opener to their tournament hosts.
Faith Christian 45, QC Christian 26: Isaac Weber had 12 rebounds, 10 points and four blocked shots to lead the Falcons to a season-opening win in Fulton.
Also for Faith Christian, Aaron Clardie had 10 points, while Adam Dettman added nine points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Galva 40, Bureau Valley 38: Nicole Bornsheuer’s 13 points, nine rebounds and four steals weren’t enough to lift the Storm to victory on the road.
Heaven Bennett added eight points and nine boards for BV (1-4), and Katelin Johnson chipped in eight points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Shannon Reuter dished eight assists.
Eastland 50, Forreston 49: Miranda Grisham’s two free throws in the waning seconds proved to be the game-winners at Forreston, as the Cardinals ended the game by hitting a 3-pointer.
Lexis Macomber scored 14 points and Hannah Hake had 10 for Eastland (4-1). Rachel Walton led Forreston (2-1) with 18 points, including five 3-pointers.
Marcos split in Rockford: Zach Hagemann won a pair of matches at 170 pounds as Polo opened its season with a win over Mendota (50-12) and a loss to Rockford Lutheran (51-27) in Rockford.
