STERLING – Police have received no tips but are following some leads in the shooting of a 29-year-old Sterling man Saturday night.

Police were called about 9:32 p.m. to the intersection of Sixth Avenue and East Fifth Street, where the man had been shot in the pelvis, Detective Sgt. Steve Hubbard said.

The man, who apparently was intoxicated, was taken to CGH Medical Center, where he checked himself out. He has refused to cooperate with the investigation, Hubbard said.

Witnesses said they saw or heard two people arguing in the street before a shot rang out. A bullet casing was found at the scene and will be sent to the state police crime lab in Rockford, he said.

At this point, the shooting doesn’t appear to be gang-related, he added.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 815-632-6640 or the anonymous reward hotline, Whiteside County Crime Stoppers, at 877-625-7867.
